FAQs

Questions we hear a lot

General

Do you lend the money yourselves?
No. Ray Motors doesn't lend money directly. We work with registered third-party finance companies and refer your application to them. They make the lending decision.
Can I get finance with a less-than-perfect credit history?
Often, yes. Different lenders look at different things — your current income and ability to repay matter as much as your history. Apply and we'll be upfront about your options.
Is there any obligation if I apply?
None. Applying lets us see what's possible; you're not committed to anything until you sign a loan contract.

Applying

What will I need?
  • NZ driver licence
  • Proof of income (recent payslips or bank statements)
  • Proof of address
  • Details of any trade-in
How long does approval take?
Many applications are answered the same business day, but it depends on the lender and how quickly supporting documents come through.
Can my trade-in be the deposit?
Yes. The value of your trade-in can be used towards your deposit, even if there's still money owing on it.

Repayments, rates & terms

How long can I borrow over?
Terms are usually between 1 and 6 years. A longer term lowers each repayment but increases the total interest you pay.
Are the calculator figures what I'll actually pay?
No — they're examples only, using an example rate of 12.95% p.a. and example fees. Your actual rate, fees and repayments depend on your credit profile, the lender and their responsible lending assessment.
Can I pay my loan off early?
Usually yes, though some lenders charge an early repayment fee. The lender will explain this in your loan documents.

Security & legal

Will the car be security for the loan?
In most cases the vehicle is registered as security on the PPSR. Some lenders also require comprehensive insurance for the term of the loan.
Is this financial advice?
No. We can explain how finance works, but we don’t provide financial advice. If you’re unsure whether finance is right for you, talk to a licensed financial adviser or a free budgeting service such as MoneyTalks.
